Tournament History

The 12th ANNUAL BTB MAKO RODEO was held at Hoffman’s Marina West in Brielle, NJ on June 12-13, 2013 in honor of Brett T. Bailey, an avid fisherman lost on September 11, 2001. For the twelfth consecutive year, the Brett T. Bailey Foundation raised money for various local charities. This year their efforts were focused on helping local families affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. The charities they supported are Shores United Relief Fund (S.U.R.F.) and the Long Blue Line

Fifty Two boats participated along with hundreds of other supporters who attended the dinner and on shore activities at Hoffman’s West on Saturday afternoon/evening. The weather was ideal, the conditions were perfect for shark fishing and the Foundation paid out over $30,000 in prize money. The winning Mako weighed in at 275lbs and was boated by Captain Eric Jacobson and angler Jan Farensbach and the crew of the ‘Big Kid.’ The winning 398lb Thresher was landed by Captain Ken Hager who was aboard the ‘Taylor Jean.’ The Big Kid and Taylor Jean both sail from Brielle, NJ. The fishing was very good with hundreds of blue sharks and several small Makos released throughout the day. Several other Makos were weighed including a 255 by the ‘Seaquester,’ a 221 by ‘Tarheel,’ and a 225 by the ‘Fin-Ominal.’

The Foundation would like to thank the Grafas Family and everyone at Hoffman’s Marina for their efforts, hospitality and support as well as all the people that participated in this weekend’s festivities. The money raised will hopefully make a difference in the lives of many of our neighbors as they begin to rebuild their lives and rebuild the shore around them.
